Friends I've Made Family

Image
There are three friends in my life that have made me feel so at home and welcome in my own skin that I will consider them family forever. These three friends are Caleb, Hanna and Torrie. These three people have altered my life forever, taught me some good lesson and have been along my side for even better memories. I can thank them for making my high school and college life an absolute blast.  Caleb came into my life in third grade after he moved to my school and was put into my class. We initially became friends because he told everyone Miranda Cosgrove was his sister, and me, being the biggest iCarly fan ever, needed an autograph so I befriended him very quickly. As soon as I made him a close friend, I found out he was lying to make friends and I’ll tell you what, he did a great job of that. This week will be our 10-year friendiversary and were planning to get all dressed up and have a cute dinner (at home, thanks COVID-19).  Hanna is another funny story. I met Ha...

Growing Up in a Small Town

Image
Monroe ($roe), Michigan. The first county you meet coming into Michigan up I-75 and the most boring, non-exciting site you will experience. A real “Welcome to Michigan”, if you will. Well, that’s where I live, born and raised, a county full of corn fields, a graduating class of 83, and a drive your tractor to school day to top it all off. In a town with nothing to do, you learn how to keep yourself entertained.  The number one thing my friends I learned to do in $roe was play hostage. Hostage was game that could incorporate anywhere from 8-20 people and wasted a lot of time in a super fun and competitive way. It’s an easy game to play but a hard game to explain, I’ll try my best.  For the easiest explanation, were going to assume were playing a game with 8 people. Two cars will be needed, four people in each car, a driver, a passenger, and two people, blindfolded, in the backseat. The driver and passenger of one car is on the same team as the people in the back se...

Social Distancing Fail

Image
My neighborhood is one big family, in fact, I call some of my neighbors my aunts and uncles. During the self-quarantine and the at home order, we decided to change it to a “stay in the hood” quarantine. The past few days, we’ve had dinner at a new person’s house and then the next day they also serve breakfast for the guests.  Each night we would gather for dinner at 4:30pm and quickly eat so that we could move on to the fun stuff (although, I do love eating). Once we are finished eating, we all pitch in to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen. After, we move into the garage or basement depending on the house (everyone in the neighborhood either has a hangout in the basement or the garage for our awesome get togethers). This is when the disco lights come on, the music gets blasted and the dance moves are busted out. We dance, laugh and joke all night with each other, sometimes the party would be moved into a hot tub or in the backyard for a bonfire.  The next morning...

History of PR

Image
Some of you may not know, but my major at Ohio Northern University is Public Relations. For this blog, I decided to do some digging into the history for my major and discovered a woman names Betsy Plank. Mrs. Plank is also commonly referred to as the "First Lady of Public Relations" and its for a very good reason.  Betsy's career lasted 63 years and she was confronted with many firsts, hence the nickname. She graduated from  the University of Alabama in 1944, Betsy  acheived  national and international  recognition  during a career in corporate and agency public relations.  "Betsy achieved multiple firsts for women, being the first to head a division of Illinois Bell, and as president of the Publicity Club of Chicago and  PRSA  (1973). She was also the first person ever to receive three of  PRSA’s top individual honors : The Gold Anvil Award (1977), the Paul M. Lund Public Service Award (1989) and the Patrick Jackson Award for Disti...

My Good Luck Charms

I own a few things that I call my Goodluck charms or just my favorite in general.    This is definitely more of a silly blog and something for you guys to see that I am just the average person. Given that I post about certain private topics, like insecurities, I want you to know I’m someone relatable and someone you can trust.  1.       Bucket Hat. My Bucket hat is the golf Goodluck charm, wore it all of my spring break trip with the golf team and played the best I had all year.  2.       Cat Socks. I got socks with pictures of my cats faces on them as a going away gift. I wear them every time I have an exam and even if I don’t do too hot, its still fun to know I have their socks on.  3.       “That’s what She Said” poster. This poster of my favorite TV character, Michael Scott, was hanging in my dorm room but it has now been moved to the back of my door in my bedroom at...

Kickstart A Viral Channel

To start a channel, you’ll need to know what your content will consist of. I’ve learned from experience that jumping around content can easily make you lose your following fast.  You should have a niche, what you want your followers will see from you specially. For me, it’s my notes and how to be organized. You might pick that, comedy, DIY, and many other topic ideas.  Once you know the topic for your channel, you’ll need a good and easy username people can remember. Also keep it consistent with any other platforms you’ll want to cross pollinate on, like TikTok, YouTube or Instagram.  Keep in mind, channels don’t blow up overnight, sometimes they do but its more likely you will slowly gain before you will be a “viral” channel.

A Healthy Morning Routine

Every girl see’s the fake morning routine vlogs on YouTube that are just too good to be true. Waking up with a perfect face of natural makeup and making your bed right away, then heading to the kitchen for some ice water and avocado toast. This is the morning of our dreams, like a princess, but its way to unrealistic. I’m here to help you gain not only a very aesthetically pleasing morning routine, but also a very realistic one.  You should know how long it takes you to get ready, all you’ll need if a few extra minutes to make your morning more productive and “pretty”.  Wake up about 30 minutes earlier than you need to get ready. 1.       Wake up and make your bed! Making your bed can help you feel like you will have a productive day, it’s a fast and easy chore to do in the morning.  2.       Exercise. You can decide how much you want to do, but ten pushups, crunches, and squats are a good start before you...

Milk Bath Photoshoot

Image
My best friend from back home and I decided to have a well-deserved girl’s night. We painted, plucked eyebrows, baked cookies, and did makeovers. Once our makeup was done, we realized it was 11pm and we were just going to wash it off, instead we decided to do a photoshoot.  The issue now was that again it was 11pm and dark so it had to be inside. We ended up stumbling upon a milk bath photoshoot idea and that's exactly what we did. It cost, in total, $15 for two gallons of milk and a bouquet of flowers which was so worth it for the final product. I encourage you and your friends to try this out because it was a lot of fun and really helps to boost your confidence.

The Last Hoorah

Image
Since ONU closed for the corona virus, my friends and I decided to go out all day Friday and hangout. There was a darty (day party) off campus and we thought it’d be fun to go play some cornhole, throw around a football and eat some good food. The party was St. Paddy’s themed because of the date being too close to St. Patrick’s Day, we got together to make/crop shirts and get ready for the party. It was a lot of fun and I’m glad I did it. Today we received news that ONU will be shutting down for the rest of the year, luckily, I got a good last memory in, my friends and I all hanging put from 2pm to 2am and making the best last memory I could ask for my freshman year.

How to Keep Yourself Busy While at Home from School

Image
We all know what pandemic the world is in right now and were soon to be stuck to our homes. Away from school, friends and sports, I’m sure you’re asking, “what do I do now?”. Since I’ve been home the past few days and spent the first online schooling day in my room, I realized how much goes on at school and how little happens in my hometown of Monroe, Michigan. Knowing that I’ll need to occupy myself until the end of the school year as at home, now, online student, I’ve come up with some things I can do make time pass until this whole craziness is over.  1.       Personally, I already have a YouTube channel, so I’ll be able to post a lot more, more often and better content. For you, however, if you dint have one already, you can start a YouTube channel or begin a quest to become TikTok famous 2.       When I was at school, I was always using the excuse “you’re too busy to workout”. Well now I have nothing but t...

That's My Roommate!

Image
My roommate, Brynn Serbin is a freshman on the on the ONU basketball team, she is number three and has the most playing time out of any freshman on the team. I went to all of her home games and after a few I made a poster that said my famous quote “THAT’S MY ROOMMATE”. Every time she scored, I would stand up and scream it, I wasn’t sure if everyone heard me and being the proud roommate, I am, I had to make a poster to hold up so that the whole gym would know. She got freshman of the year for basketball and you know I had to brag about that too on twitter.  Brynn is an amazing athlete and roommate, but she’s an even better friend. Through the laughs and tears, she’s always been there for me. Taking me for a milkshake when I was upset or even staying up having late night talks about the stupidest things, Brynn is someone I can share anything with and know it’s safe with her. I really hit the roommate jackpot with her and wouldn’t ask for anyone else to share my freshman year do...

Spring Break Fun

Image
After golfing the first four days of spring break, we got the last two days off for fun! On Thursday most of us either stayed at the resort to hang around at the pool or went to the Arnold Palmer Invitational to watch our favorite golfers play in a tournament. I decided to stay back and go to the resort pool! We were there from 9am to 5:30pm. After a long day swimming and tanning we were starving so we took a trip to Universal City Walk to eat dinner at Margaritaville. I had a huge burger and a virgin pina colada, then we walked off the calories and made a TikTok in the middle of the City Walk.  On Friday a few of us went to Daytona Beach. We Ubered there and it was over $200 total but so worth it. We walked the board walk first to find a good place for lunch because we had left the house at 9:30am and made it to the beach at 11am. After we ate at a cute little home-grown pizza place, we went on a hunt to find a skin board. We finally found one...

Golfing on Spring Break

Image
Over spring break the Ohio Northern Golf team went to Orlando Florida where we had three matches to play in. We flew out of the Columbus Airport on Saturday February 29, 2020 and had a layover in Baltimore Maryland then finally arrived to Orlando late that night and made it to our 40 person house at 11:30pm. We got in our rooms, unpacked, ate, and packed one of the vans with our clubs for the six-hour practice we were having the next day to prepare us for the matches that were starting on Monday.  I golfed in two Ryder Cups, Tuesday and Wednesday both at 7am. A Ryder Cup is a nine-hole match where the first six you and a partner play a scramble, the second six you play best ball and the last six is alternate shot. The first day my partner and I lost all three rounds and the second day we tied the first two and lost the third.  After playing Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we got Thursday and Friday off to do whatever we wanted. Read the next vlog “Spring B...
